稼いだ額とか関係ない。
バイトも派遣も正社員もフリーランスも
働くということは全てが平等にカッコイイ。
というコンセプトから生まれた作品です。
職種の分類や、職業差別用語
としても使われる
ホワイトカラー、ブルーカラー
という言葉がありますが、
ホワイトカラーの象徴とも言えるネクタイに
デニム生地を使用することで
ネクタイをホワイトカラーのものだと
決めつけず、
ボロボロで色褪せたダメージは働くことの
大変さや辛さや疲労感を表しています。
真鍮製のスタッズはお金。群がる働きアリ。
全てのコントラストが
ネクタイのデザインとなり、
最高にカッコイイと思える
ネクタイを作りました。
デニム生地は
デニムの最高傑作とも呼ばれる
Levis501のデニム生地を使いました。
ネクタイ生地の最高峰と言えば
シルクだと思いますが、
これは職種や立場を問わず、全ての働く人へ
敬意を表すネクタイでもあるので、
チープなデニム生地では
敬意に欠けると考えたからです。
そして最高にカッコイイネクタイが
完成したとき、
名前は Rock’n’roll しかない
なと思いました。
だってカッコイイんですから。
This work was born from the idea
that there is no hierarchy among professions.
Income doesn’t determine value.
Part-time workers, temporary staff, full-time employees, freelancers
— to work at all is equally cool.
We often divide occupations into categories such as
“white-collar” and “blue-collar,”
terms that can also carry discriminatory undertones.
By using denim fabric for a necktie — a symbol of white-collar culture —
I refuse to confine the tie to a single class identity.
The worn, faded damage expresses
the hardship, struggle, and fatigue of working life.
The brass studs represent money.
The swarming worker ants represent labor.
All of these contrasts become the design of the tie itself —
and I created what I believe is the coolest tie possible.
The denim comes from Levi’s 501,
often regarded as one of the greatest achievements in denim.
Silk may be considered the pinnacle of traditional tie fabric,
but this tie is meant as a tribute to all working people,
regardless of profession or status.
Using cheap denim would have felt disrespectful.
And when the coolest tie was finally complete,
there was only one possible name: Rock ’n’ Roll.
Because it’s cool.
