医学の祖とされるギリシャの医学者ヒポクラテスの言葉をラテン語訳した
Ars longa, vita brevis.
（アルス・ロンガ・ウィータ・ブレウィス）
人生は短いが、医術を修得するのにく要する年月は果てしなく長いという格言があります。
人の一生は短いが医術は奥が深く極め難い。
だからこそ医を学ぶ者は
怠らず励まなければならない、という意だそうです。
このヒポクラテスの格言が元となり、芸術界では
「 Art is long, life is short 」
人の命は短いが、優れた芸術作品は永く残ると使われるようになったそうです。
この芸術界における格言を私なりに解釈し、ネクタイとして表現した作品です。
今のところこのサイズが合う人にはまだ会えていないのですが、いずれお会いした時にはプレゼントしたいと思っています。
身長1800cm前後の人がちょうど良い感じです。

The Latin phrase Ars longa, vita brevis
— attributed to Hippocrates, the Greek physician often regarded
as the father of medicine — means,
“Life is short, art is long.”
Originally, it expressed the idea that while human life is brief,
the mastery of medicine requires an immeasurably long time.
Because life is short and medical knowledge is
profound and difficult to perfect,
those who study medicine must persevere without neglect.
Over time, this maxim came to be interpreted in the art world as:
“Art is long, life is short” —
suggesting that although human life is fleeting, great works of art endure.
This piece is my own interpretation of that artistic maxim,
expressed in the form of a tie.
So far, I have not yet met anyone who fits this size,
but when I do, I intend to present it as a gift.
A height of around 1800 cm would be ideal.
